non sottovalutare. Chi invia notizie, fotografie o annunci
vari in Redazione, sa già in anticipo che il tutto vedrà la luce
su “Rintocchi” a scadenza prevedibile. E in più verrà visto da
tante altre persone. Come un altoparlante che si fa sentire
a largho raggio.

IL MINATORE
Non é il diario di un uomo, sono solo ricordi che riaffiorano di
tanto in tanto, parlano di una lontana giovinezza e di oscuri
angoli...
É cosi che si esprime Bruno Luchetta, nativo di Treviso sbarcato
a questi lidi nel lontano 1957 che fa subito esperienza con la
canna da zucchero poi uno strano richiamo lo porta alle miniere
di Mount Isa e ci resta inchiodato per oltre vent’anni fra rame,
piombo e zinco!
É cosi che descrive uno dei tanti momenti: quando la miniera ti
ingoia, ti pare di scendere all’inferno: é una strapotente paura che
si imposessa di te il momento che l’enorme gabbioneascensore
ti porta giú al fondo in un impossibile buio, é l’attimo che pensi
all’inferno di Dante, perché arrivato ai mille metri di profonditá,
attravero la fioca luce della pila appesa al casco noti ombre di
uomini curvi, sudati, quasi stralunati, carrelli colmi e rocce lucide,
umide, e ti vien subito l’istinto di abbassarti perche ti sembra
di grattare col casco quel mondo fatto di un pauroso tunnel!
Morale?
Una professione rischiosa, testimone di mortali incidenti, perso
ottimi amici, rischio che mi ha plasmato
come uomo, e mi ha fatto capire il valore
della vita, e grazie alla stella fortuna son
qua a ricordare una giovinezza passata
nelle voragini della terra per costruirmi un
avvenire migliore !

CHARLIE THE BARBER

Inglewood is a town situated on the southern Darling
Downs in Queensland, Australia, is where Ermelindo (Charlie)
Parrella was first given the nickname “Charlie the Barber”.
On Saturday September 9 2017 in Inglewood is where
Charlie launched his newly published book titled “Charlie
the Barber - My Memoirs”.
In 1956, Charlie was
only 14 years old
when he arrived in
Inglewood from his
birthplace, Perrillo

At 75, Charlie shows no sign of hanging up his scissors. In his
spare time, he wrote a book about his life in Australia. Charlie’s
Memoirs was made possible through the translation from Margaret Tait (wife of late Bob Tait) and daughter Anne Gillespie with
Italian to English by Maria Spina Gaudiello who also assisted Charlie on a Barber Shop visit
developing and publishing Charlie’s stories.

On the 7th October 2017, as a breast cancer survivor and
campaigner myself and four ladies organised a High Tea at
Victoria Park Golf Complex, Brisbane where almost 400 ladies
attended to raise much needed funds for the research of
breast and ovarian cancer.
We are extremely happy to say that we raised $40,250.00
to go equally to the Mater Foundation for ovarian cancer
research and the Wesley Breast Clinic for Breast Cancer
Research.

Aprite gli occhi alla fantasia
e immaginate un paese
Medioevale tra vie strettissime
col sole d’agosto....
Guido e Clara Pengue, membri
della Federazione Cattolica
Italiana di Sydney nel loro giro
vacanza in Italia, ci hanno
riportato una curiosa e antica
storia legata al proprio paese.
Provvengono da Guardia
Sanframondi in provincia di
Benevento nella Regione della
Campania.
Qui si rivive una leggenda, quella
dei Penitenti che si ripete ogni
sette anni.
Secoli fa, dice la leggenda, un
vecchio contadino, fra le zolle
del suo campetto trova una
Madonna scolpita nel legno.
Una madonna sola e abbandonata
nella terra umida é di per se un
Penitenti conosciuti come "battenti" che si battono con unghie a Guardia Sanframondi, in Italia, durante
miracolo e quella scopertá attiró una processione religiosa che si svolge ogni sette anni.
la curiositá, l’attenzione ed il
desiderio di possederla da parte
del popolo dei borghi vicini e invece di miracolare causó da principio molti dolorosi alterigi, alla fine peró tornó la
pace e con la pace il pentimento appunto per aver altercato, cosi, placati i rancori chiesero tutti perdono alla madonna,
alla quale poi chiesero la guida
spirituale e naturalmente a lei
chiedevano anche di mantenere
un occhio sulle coltivazioni e sul
buon andare in generale. Pentiti
per essersi comportati con
stupidità e leggerezza decisero
praticamente di punirsi ed ecco
nato il rito dei Penitenti !
É una tradizione che si tramanda
da cinquecento anni, culmina
con una processione che si
snoda attraverso le strette vie
del paese nel mese di agosto e in
quella passeggiata la Madonna
conservata in preziosa nicchia
in chiesa esce in gran pompa
sicuramente benedicendo tutti.
La statua della Madonna torna alla sua casa nella chiesa alla fine della processione

Le vie del paese, piazza inclusa é
tutto adornato con festoni colorati
e bandierine, i paesani nei loro
variopinti costumi ed i Penitenti, che
non si voglion far riconoscere proprio
perché son Penitenti, indossano delle
bianchissime vesti e incapucciati
seguono la processione a lenti passi, a
corde speciali hanno infissi dei chiodi
e con quelli praticamenti battendosi
la schiena si fragellano.
Gli assistenti passeggiavano attraverso
la processione che versava il vino
bianco su un sughero che fu usato
per disinfettare le ferite dei penitenti
e intorpidire la loro pelle forata. L'aria
riempita con l'odore acuto del sangue
e del tart vino. Alla fine della marcia,
le vesti bianche erano macchiate con
sangue secco.
Questo tipo di raduno settennale
attira gran parte degli emigrati che
si trovano all’estero oltre alle migliaia
di turisti.
