The evolution of ‘Piazza San Francesco’ has been

in 1995 and settled in Sydenham.
Never one to sit idly for very long or at all, Mairéad
has amassed quite a list of courses, diplomas and a
degree including, H & R Block tax course, Certificate
in Business Admin, Diploma & Advanced Diploma Mairéad and her family
in Accounting and Bachelor of Accounting, all while
working, raising a family, volunteering at St Vincent

Ho avuto il privilegio di fare una chiacchierata con
Frank Carbonara, uno dei residenti del centro Assisi.
Mi ha raccontato della sua infanzia in una famiglia
numerosa, il più giovane di otto figli, 4 sorelle e tre
fratelli Frank è cresciuto nel ‘villaggio’ di Bari negli
anni ’40. Nei susseguenti trent’anni, Frank ha detto
di essere stato testimone della trasformazione di Bari
da ‘villaggio’ a città.
Figlio di un poliziotto e di una casalinga che con otto
figli era sempre impegnata, Frank a dodici anni ha
cominciato a lavorare nell’industria edile, prima come
apprendista, poi come muratore e intonacatore.

Centre could scarcely have missed the presence and
contributions of Elizabeth De Amicis over many years.
Whether she’s loading up residents for a bus outing,
helping to feed the hungry in St Claires or assisting
Nuccia Bascetta to cook her famous frittelle during a
social function, Elizabeth has been an integral part of
the Assisi Centre’s vibrant social community for over
twenty years.
Born in a small Italian village Castiglione a Casauria,
province of Pescara, Elizabeth arrived in Australia in
1950. After a period living in Thornbury, she settled
in Rosanna - just a few doors down from the Assisi
Centre, where she resides today. Her son Fausto
became an accomplished soccer player, representing Elizabeth with Rosa Tarquinio

2017 will mark the 25th Anniversary year for the Assisi Centre. In recognition of this, the organisation will celebrate
its foundation day and 25th Anniversary in March 2017.
A carnival theme is being planned for the day which will aim to achieve the following key outcomes:
• Awareness - Raising awareness of the Assisi Centre (our Vision, Mission, Values, Services and Cultural Heritage)
among the local and broader community.
• Acknowledgement - Of the people who have made a significant contribution to the Assisi Centre both past
and present.
• Engagement - Create an event that engages residents, families, staff, volunteers, local community and local
parish/s through a range of activities, food stalls, music and entertainment.
• Fundraising - An opportunity to raise funds throughout the day for the residents at the Assisi Centre.
The Foundation Day - 25th Anniversary Celebrations will be advertised throughout various marketing and
promotions including; Local Italian radio, On-Hold telephone message, the 2016-2017 Annual Report, Notizie
Magazine, Il Globo, the Assisi Centre website as well as the local Leader Newspaper.
