With the arrival of spring in early March awakes the desire to move outdoors. In April and May
the apple trees are resplendent in pink and white and in June the alpine roses are in all their
glory. It’s high season for hikers and mountain lovers, and the perfect time to discover the Hirzer
Plateau and Texel Group National Park or enjoy the sunshine along the beautiful irrigation
channel paths!

Il bellissimo campo da golf a 18 buche del Golf Club Passiria.Merano si inserisce armoniosa-
mente nell’incantevole paesaggio. Il clima mite assicura ottime condizioni di gioco da febbraio a

This beautiful and challenging 18-hole course blends perfectly with the landscape, and the valley’s
warm climate promises ideal playing conditions from February to December. The golf school, with
its two experienced PGA professionals , enjoys an excellent reputation with a range of lessons
and courses. The club also has great dining and socialising facilities.

There are exciting outdoor adventures , such as walks with Murmi Sepp, the marmoset, and
loads to discover - the inhabitants of t he forest, horses at the stables, the mine, and much, much
more. This year too there are surprise activities galore for our little ones, with bread making,
jousting, football, games, coach rides and ghostly nights at Jaufenburg castle. Bored? No chance!

interessante e travagliato. L’immagine della valle è caratterizzata da antiche chiese, monumenti
storici e vecchi casali contadini. Tra i luoghi di maggiore interesse vi sono Castel Giovo sopra
S. Leonardo, i masi dello scudo e il MuseoPassiria presso il Sandhof.
The Passeier Valley has a richly eventful and interesting past. Cultural treasures include the ancient
Rhaetian places of worship found above the village of Stuls, the numerous churches and old farms
that shape the valley landscape, the Painters’ House in St. Martin, and of course the Sandhof ,
the birthplace of Andreas Hofer, probably the most famous of all Tyrolean freedom fighters.

… nacque il 22 novembre 1767 presso il
maso Sandwirt a S. Leonardo in Passiria.
Durante le guerre della liberazione guidò
la rivolta dei tirolesi contro le truppe napo-
leoniche e diventò reggente del Tirolo. La
pace di Schönbrunn spinse Andreas Hofer
ad una nuova insurrezione che si concluse
però con la sconfitta dei tirolesi sul Berg
isel a Innsbruck. Hofer dovette fuggire.
Tradito, fu preso prigioniero nella baita
della malga Pfandler Alm sopra S. Martino
in Passiria e venne fucilato a Mantova il 20
febbraio 1810.
… was born on 22nd November 1767 at the
Sandhof in St. Leonhard in Passeier. In the
Tyrolean freedom wars of 1809 he led his
countrymen to victory three times in the
fight against Napoleon’s troops, and beca-
me commander- in-chief of the Tyrolean
army. However, a further uprising after the
Treaty of Schönbrunn ended in their defeat
at Bergisel near Innsbruck. Andreas Hofer
fled to the Pfandler Alm above St. Martin
in Passeier, but was betrayed, captured
and executed by firing squad in Mantua in
northern Italy on 20th February 1810.

Andreas Hofer, il noto comandante delle truppe tirolesi. Situato a S. Leonardo, il Maso Sandhof ospita il MuseoPassiria con il moderno percorso
“Eroi & Hofer”, la quale racconta in che modo il barbuto oste e commerciante di bestiame divenne l'eroe popolare. Nel 2012 la mostra venne candi-
data al prestigioso premio del museo europeo. La mostra “Eroi & Noi” mette in luce l'appassionante tema di cosa significhi essere un modello. Un
maso nell’area all’aperto invita a soffermarsi e illustra la cultura popolare della valle attraverso una mostra innovativa, filmati e una raccolta di
musiche tradizionali.
The 1809 Tyrolean struggles for freedom against the Bavarian Army are a piece of history rooted in the Passeier Valley, the birthplace of Andreas Hofer,
who was the famous commander of the Tyrolean rebel forces. The Sandhof Farm is home to the MuseumPasseier: The parcours “Helden & Hofer” re-
counts how the bearded innkeeper and cattle trader went down in history as a folk hero at the helm of the Tyrolean rebellion. The exhibition was nomi-
nated for the prestigious European Museum Award in 2012. The exhibition “Heroes & Us” presents large light cones to illuminate the fascinating topic
of the function of role models. Spanning various typical buildings, the folkloristic exhibition in the history museum recounts life in the Passeier Valley,
utilising innovative methods including video and a collection of traditional music.

24 | Val Passiria HIGHLIGHTSGli abitanti della Val Passiria sono molto fieri delle loro tradizioni e usanze che rivivono in
occasione di feste, processioni e sagre paesane . Tra le ricorrenze più significative spiccano
indubbiamente la Festa del Sacro Cuore e il rientro del bestiame dagli alpeggi nel mese di
settembre.
Customs and traditions are very important to the valley’s inhabitants. The many festivals, proces-
sions and church feast days are a welcome opportunity to wear traditional costume, sing, dance,
eat and drink. Examples are the Herz Jesu festival when many small fires illuminate the surroun-
ding peaks and September’s cattle drive when the cattle return to the valley for the winter.

Enjoyment is an art that needs to be mastered on a holiday in the Passeier Valley. The huge
variety of culinary treats will satisfy even the most demanding palate. A delicious cheese from
the Passeier Valley bio mountain dairy , excellent wines from the sunny vineyards or a fresh
draft beer from one of the two local breweries – what more could you ask for?
