La Russia e l’Occidente raccoglie gli scritti storico-politici del poeta e diplomatico russo F.I.
Tjutčev. Nella presente edizione – la prima in italiano – la raccolta è preceduta dal saggio,
intitolato La poesia di Tjutčev, che il filosofo russo V.S. Solov’ëv dedica, nel 1895, all’opera
poetica e filosofica di Tjutčev.
Nato a Ovstug, da una famiglia appartenente all’antica nobiltà moscovita, Fëdor Ivanovic
Tjutčev (1803-1873) è uno dei più grandi poeti russi. Profondamente ammirato da Fet,
Dostoevskij e soprattutto Tolstoj, egli si impone, già durante gli ultimi anni del XIX secolo,
come maestro e precursore della successiva poesia simbolista.
La sua attività letteraria si intreccia, in maniera indubbiamente feconda, con la carriera
diplomatica che egli intraprende giovanissimo come impiegato del Ministero degli Affari
Esteri a Monaco. Nella vivace capitale bavarese, in un contesto animato da formidabili
personalità (da H. Heine a J.Ph. Fallmerayer, da F. von Baader a F.W.J. Schelling), Tjutčev
trascorre più di vent’anni, accumulando esperienze spirituali e culturali che segneranno
profondamente lo sviluppo del suo pensiero storico e artistico.

Diese Edition des Systems der gesammten Philosophie und der Naturphilosophie insbesondere
wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Projekt Schelling – Edition und Archiv an der Bayerischen
Akademie der Wissenschaften realisiert.
Der verhältnismäßig wenig bekannte Text stellt den einzigen Versuch Schellings dar,
die beiden komplementären Teile seines Systems, das sich auf die Parallelität der
natürlichen und der geistigen Welt gründet, in einer organischen Gesamtansicht zur
Darstellung zu bringen.
So liefert das System der gesammten Philosophie und der Naturphilosophie insbesondere, das der
Philosoph im Jahre 1804 anlässlich seiner Würzburger Vorlesungstätigkeit ausarbeitete,
eine Erhellung und wertvolle Vorwegnahme wesentlicher Aspekte seines Denkens
(z. B. zur Potenzenlehre, zum Verhältnis von Licht und Schwere, zum metaphysischen
Sinn der Liebe).
Neben seiner historischen Bedeutung und der Komplexität des behandelten Gegen-
stands überrascht der Text mit einer theoretischen Frische, wobei es ihm gelingt, die
Strukturen des metaphysischen Geflechts der Gegenwart sichtbar zu machen.

La presente edizione del Sistema dell’intera filosofia è stata realizzata in collaborazione con
la Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften di Monaco nell’ambito del progetto Schelling
– Edition und Archiv. Hanno preso parte alla realizzazione del volume Vicki
Müller-Lüneschloß e Christoph Binkelmann.
L’opera, relativamente poco conosciuta, costituisce di fatto l’unico tentativo, da parte di
Schelling, di esporre organicamente la connessione sistematica tra l’aspetto reale e l’aspetto
ideale della sua visione filosofica.
Elaborato in occasione delle lezioni tenute a Würzburg nel 1804, il Sistema contiene una
dettagliata chiarificazione e una preziosa anticipazione di alcune essenziali tematiche
dell’intera speculazione schellinghiana (si pensi per esempio alla dottrina delle potenze,
alla visione metafisica del rapporto tra gravità e luce, alla dottrina dell’amore).
All’evidente valore storico, e all’innegabile complessità strutturale della materia trattata,
si aggiunge una singolare, e per certi versi sorprendente, freschezza teoretica, la quale
consente alla visione esposta nel Sistema di raggiungere e illuminare, come lampo inatteso,
strutture profonde del tessuto metafisico contemporaneo.

The body of texts collected in this first volume of Writings on Space offers the
reader an organic presentation of the fundamental theme of spatiality in P.A.
Florensky’s thought. In space, according to the great Russian philosopher, it is
possible to see «the specific and originary object of philosophy, in relation to
which all other themes should be considered as derivatives».
Through a sophisticated and highly original elaboration of mathematical,
physical, psychological and aesthetic data, space is illuminated by Florensky
as the possibility of the appearance of the «idea», i.e. of the live and deep reality
of things.
The volume consists of two tomes bound by hand. The first contains the texts on
space, the second presents the images of the paintings and woodcuts that mark
the visual line of Florensky’s powerful, contrapuntal thinking.

L’insieme dei testi raccolti in questo primo volume degli Scritti sullo spazio restituisce uno
sguardo organico sulla fondamentale tematica della spazialità nel pensiero di P.A. Florenskij.
Nello spazio, secondo il grande filosofo russo, è possibile scorgere «l’oggetto specifico
e originario della filosofia, in relazione al quale tutti gli altri temi filosofici dovrebbero essere
considerati come derivati».
Attraverso una raffinata e originalissima elaborazione dei dati della matematica, della
fisica, della psicologia e dell’estetica, lo spazio si illumina, nella visione di Florenskij, come
possibilità d’apparizione dell’idea, ossia della viva e profonda realtà delle cose.
Il volume è costituito da due tomi rilegati a mano. Il primo contiene i testi sullo spazio; il
secondo presenta le immagini dei dipinti e delle xilografie che segnano la linea visiva del
potente pensiero contrappuntistico di Florenskij.

22 23En 1932 la maison d’édition Academia, fondée à Pétrograd (à présent
Saint-Pétersbourg) dix ans auparavant, publie un petit chef-d’œuvre :
une merveilleuse collection illustrée de sept histoires d’animaux.
Il s’agit de contes extrêmement courts (qui, parfois, n’occupent même
pas une page entière), très intenses, pensés pour les enfants, pour
transmettre aux petits lecteurs qui s’approchent de leur première
expérience de la littérature l’idée que la réalité du monde n’est que de
la poésie, de la poésie tangible et concrète.
L’auteur de ces histoires, tirées des quatre Livres russes de lecture, est
Léon Tolstoï. Les illustrations qui les accompagnent sont des gravures
sur bois, réalisées par un autre grand artiste, Vladimir Favorski. Lui, et
Tolstoï : deux cimes de l’art et de la pensée russe.
La langue limpide et profonde de Tolstoï prend sa forme dans les
illustrations d’un des meilleurs graveurs sur bois que l’histoire de la
gravure ait connu. Artiste polyédrique ainsi qu’auteur d’une importante
réflexion théorique sur l’art, Favorski a été le Directeur, entre 1923 et
1926, du légendaire Vchoutemas (ВХУТЕМАС, acronyme de Высшие
ХУдожественно-ТЕхнические МАСтерские), c’est-à-dire, des Ateliers
supérieurs d’art et technique, fondés à Moscou en 1920. Dans une atmos-
phère ardente et féconde, les artistes majeurs de l’époque (y compris le
philosophe P. A. Florenski) donnèrent des cours auprès des Ateliers. Au
cours des années qui virent Favorski le diriger, le Vchoutemas encoura-
gea l’élaboration de programmes artistiques et didactiques hautement
innovants, sous plusieurs aspects semblables (bien qu’indépendants) à
ceux qui étaient façonnés au sein du Bauhaus de Weimar.
Le projet Beatrix a choisi d’embrasser et de développer cet extraordinaire
héritage artistique et culturel. Et de commencer par le début, par ces
histoires poétiques, écrites pour les enfants.

24 25Nel 1932 la casa editrice Academia, fondata dieci anni prima a Pietrogrado
(ora San Pietroburgo), pubblica un piccolo capolavoro editoriale: una
splendida raccolta di sette storie illustrate sugli animali. Sono storie
brevi (a volte meno di una paginetta), intense, pensate per i bambini,
per lasciar loro al primo contatto con la lettura, con le lettere, l’idea
che la realtà del mondo sia poesia, null’altro che solida poesia.
L’autore delle storie, tratte dai quattro Libri russi di lettura, è Lev
Tolstoj. Le illustrazioni sono incisioni su legno di un altro grande
artista, Vladimir Favorskij. Due vette dell’arte e del pensiero russo.
La parola semplice e profonda di Tolstoj si fa immagine nelle illustrazioni
di uno dei più grandi incisori su legno. Artista poliedrico e teorico
dell’arte, Favorskij è stato rettore, dal 1923 al 1926, del leggendario
Vchutemas (ВХУТЕМАС, acronimo per Высшие ХУдожественно-ТЕх-
нические МАСтерские), ossia degli Ateliers superiori dell’arte e della
tecnica creati a Mosca nel 1920. In un clima spirituale estremamente
vivace e fecondo, insegneranno agli Ateliers i migliori artisti dell’epoca
(compreso il filosofo P.A. Florenskij). E proprio negli anni del rettorato
di Favorskij, prendono forma al Vchutemas programmi artistici e
didattici altamente innovativi, per molti aspetti affini, seppur indi-
pendenti, rispetto a quanto veniva elaborato durante gli stessi anni al
Bauhaus di Weimar.
Il progetto Beatrix ha deciso di raccogliere e sviluppare questa straor-
dinaria eredità artistica e culturale.
E comincia dall’inizio, con delle storie, poetiche, per bambini.

26 27In 1932, the Academia publishing house, founded ten years earlier in
Petrograd (now Saint Petersburg), published a small editorial master-
piece: a splendid collection of seven illustrated stories about animals.
They are short, intense stories (sometimes less than a page), conceived
for children, so as to endow them—at their first contact with reading,
with ‘letters’—with the idea that the reality of the world is poetry,
nothing but solid poetry.
The author of the stories, taken from the Russian Books for Reading,
is Leo Tolstoy. The illustrations are woodcuts by another great artist,
Vladimir Favorsky: two pinnacles of Russian art and thought.
The limpid and profound words of Tolstoy become images in the
illustrations of one of the greatest wood engravers. Multi-faceted
artist and art theoretician, Favorsky was the rector, from 1923 to
1926, of the legendary Vkhutemas (ВХУТЕМАС, acronym for Высшие
ХУдожественно-ТЕхнические МАСтерски), the Higher Art and
Technical Studios, created in Moscow in 1920.
The best artists of the time (including the philosopher P.A Florensky)
taught in this training institution. During Favorsky’s rectorship, in
an extremely lively and fruitful atmosphere, the Vkhutemas produced
highly innovative artistic and didactic programmes, similar in many
respects, albeit independent, to what was developed, during the same
period, at the Bauhaus in Weimar, Germany.
The Beatrix project has decided to gather and develop this extraordinary
artistic and cultural heritage, beginning with short, poetic stories
for children.
