The Assisi Centre was founded 25 years ago when the leaders of the Italian Community recognised a need to set Archbishop Sir Frank Little -
up specialised aged cares services to support Melbourne’s fast growing elderly population. As a result, the Assisi 15 March 1992.
Centre was established as a not-for-profit religious and charitable aged care organisation.
The Assisi Centre was able to obtain the beautiful Rosanna Road property, a 1920s Sisters of Mercy novitiate
convent. The Commonwealth Government granted the Assisi Centre 120 residential aged care beds; the first 90
were opened in 1993.
