Just two conclusions… Solo due conclusioni ...
1) New Zealand’s mental health and addiction problems cannot be
fixed by government alone, nor by the health system.

2) We can’t medicate or treat our way out of the epidemic of
mental distress and addiction...

It is time to move away from the paradigm of seeing
mental distress solely as medical problems with social
implications to understanding that these are social
problems with medical implications.

capire che si tratta di problemi sociali con implicazioni mediche.

There is… an over-emphasis on the treatment and
mitigation of the symptoms of the illness rather than
on the well-being of people served and their re-
integration into the community at large.

• The demands are not just about a technical change
(easy), but are fundamentally about a change in values
/ philosophy (hard)
Le richieste non riguardano solo un cambiamento tecnico
(facile), ma anche un cambiamento di valori / filosofia
(difficile)
• How do we overcome our own complicity and vested
interest with the current system / regime?
Come possiamo superare la nostra complicità e il nostro
interesse acquisito con l'attuale sistema / regime
• It is difficult to consider / evaluate another paradigm
from within our own paradigm….
È difficile considerare / valutare un altro paradigma
all'interno del nostro stesso paradigma….Grazie!
