     CONFERENCE - ITALIAN RESEARCH DAY IN THE WORLD
                                             April 16th

On the occasion of the Italian Research Day in the World, the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia, in
collaboration with The Cyprus Institute, co-organizes the conference Challenges and Opportunities
in the Modeling and Simulation of the Built Environment, by the Italian Professor Salvatore Carlucci
(Norwegian University of Science and Technology - NTNU).
The Italian Research Day in the World is an initiative of the Italian Ministry of Education,
Universities and Research in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the
Ministry of Health, which aim is to promote and enhance the work of Italian researchers worldwide.
The event takes place annually in conjunction with the anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s birth,

In occasione della Giornata della Ricerca Italiana nel Mondo, l’Ambasciata d’Italia a Nicosia, in
collaborazione con The Cyprus Institute, co-organizza la conferenza Challenges and Opportunities in
the Modeling and Simulation of the Built Environment, tenuta dal professore italiano Salvatore
Carlucci (Norwegian University of Science and Technology - NTNU).
La Giornata della Ricerca Italiana nel Mondo è un’iniziativa del MIUR in collaborazione con il MAECI
e il Ministero della Salute, il cui scopo è promuovere e valorizzare il lavoro di ricercatrici e
ricercatori italiani nel mondo. L’evento si svolge annualmente in concomitanza con l’anniversario
della nascita di Leonardo Da Vinci, il 15 aprile.

CONCERT - UMBRIAENSEMBLE
                                             April 13th
UmbriaEnsemble, a prestigious group of classical Italian soloists and chamber musicians, will hold a
classical music concert entitled "Rossiniana" as part of the Larnaca Festival of Classic Music, one of
the island's most famous classical music events. The concert, which includes well-known chamber

music pieces, was chosen to close the Festival, which takes place from the 3        to the 13 of April.

The concert will take place on Saturday the 13 of April, at 20.30 at Larnaka Municipal Theatre,
Municipal Gardens, Leonida Kioupi Street.

UmbriaEnsemble, prestigioso gruppo di solisti e cameristi classici italiani, terrà un concerto di
musica classica dal titolo “Rossiniana” nell’ambito del Festival di Musica Classica di Larnaca., tra i
più famosi eventi di musica classica dell’isola. Il concerto, che prevede le famose Ouverture
operistiche ed altri gioielli cameristici, è stato scelto come spettacolo di chiusura del Festival, che
si svolgerà dal 3 aprile al 13 aprile.

SCREENING - “DOGMAN” BY MATTEO GARRONE
                                              April 15th

Dogman, by Italian Film Director Matteo Garrone, will be screened during the Cyprus Film Days
International Festival, the official film festival of Cyprus. A 2018 Italian-French co-production,
Dogman is the receiver of prestigious awards including Best Actor and Palm Dog Award and Palme
D'Or Nominee at the Cannes Film Festival 2018. It is set in a seaside village, where the protagonist
spends his time between his dog grooming salon and his daughter Alida, until the moment he is
forced to stand up for his own dignity through an act of vengeance.

The Festival, which will take place from the 12 to the 20 of April, is organized by the Minister of
Education and Culture and the Rialto Theater, will take place at the Rialto Theater in Limassol and
the Zena Palace in Nicosia.

Dogman, del regista italiano Matteo Garrone, sarà proiettato durante il Cyprus Film Days
International Festival, il festival cinematografico ufficiale dell’isola di Cipro. Film italo-francese del
2018, Dogman è vincitore di prestigiosi premi tra cui Best Actor and Palm Dog Award e Palme D'Or
Nominee al Festival del Cinema di Cannes 2018. È ambientato in una cittadina in riva al mare, dove
il protagonista si divide tra il suo salone per la cura dei cani e sua figlia Alida, finché non è
costretto a vendicarsi per difendere la sua dignità.
Il Festival, che si svolgerà dal 12 al 20 aprile, è organizzato dal Ministero dell’Istruzione e della
Cultura e dal Teatro Rialto, si svolgerà presso il Teatro Rialto di Limassol e il Zena Palace di
Nicosia.

Vinitaly 2019 – 53° edition, the most important fair for the wine sector in Italy and one of the most

important in the world, will take place in Verona from 7          to 10        of April. The International Wine
and Spirits Exhibition has been held annually in Verona since 1967, hosting more than 4000
exhibitors each year, with a rich program of conferences, workshops, tastings and various events.

In addition to the Verona fair, which is reserved only for those working in the sector, from 5 to 8
of April the side event Vinitaly and the City 2019 will take place, which will allow everyone to
participate in wine-themed events in the most suggestive corners of the historic center of Verona.

Vinitaly 2019 – 53° edizione, la più importante fiera per il settore vinicolo in Italia e una tra le più
importanti al mondo, si terrà a Verona dal 7 al 10 aprile. Il Salone Internazionale del Vino e dei

Matera – Capitale Europea della Cultura 2019 continua a offrire un calendario fitto di eventi. A

Quadri di Poesia – April 6th
A journey through the different languages of art comes to life, in the alleys of the historic center of
Matera, thanks to the expressive power of narration of Isabella Morra, through images and sounds
combined with moments of drama.
Un viaggio attraverso i diversi linguaggi dell’arte prende vita, nei vicoli del centro storico di
Matera, grazie alla forza espressiva della narrazione di Isabella Morra, attraverso immagini e suoni,
unita a momenti di teatralizzazione.

Passione Vivente nei Sassi – April 12th
Walking of Lent and Easter. The passion of Christ represented in a theatrical way through a path of
interaction between the arts in the ancient stone districts. Cammino di Quaresima e Pasqua.
La passione di Cristo rappresentata in modo teatrale e mediante un percorso d’interazione fra le arti
negli antichi rioni sassi.

Il cinema di poesia tra antropologia e arte contemporanea – April 23rd
Prof. Francesco Marano, Anthropologist and Vice-Director of the Department of European Cultures
and the Mediterranean of the University of Basilicata and Director of Visual Anthropology, leads a
lesson on Cinema, Anthropology and Contemporary Art.

Il Prof. Francesco Marano, Antropologo e Vice-Direttore del Dipartimento delle Culture Europee e
del Mediterraneo dell’Università degli Studi della Basilicata e Direttore di Visual Anthropology,
conduce     un    focus      su     Cinema,       Antropologia     e     Arte     Contemporanea.

EASTER TRADITIONS IN ITALY
                                         La Colomba
The Colomba Pasquale, a symbol of peace, finds its origin around the middle of the sixth century
when, during the siege of Pavia, Alboino, King of the Longobards, received as a gift a leavened
bread shaped like a dove. Since then that simple dessert was enriched with candied fruit and
almonds and became part of the Easter tradition.
The Academy of Italian Pastry Chefs (AMPI) and its members continue this tradition making the
Colomba the highlight of Easter culinary celebration in Italy.

La Colomba Pasquale, simbolo di pace, trova origine intorno alla metà del sesto secolo quando,
durante l’assedio di Pavia, Alboino, Re dei Longobardi, ricevette in dono un pane lievitato dalla
forma di colomba. Da allora quel semplice dolce fu arricchito con canditi e mandorle ed entrò nella
tradizione pasquale.
L’Accademia dei Maestri Pasticceri Italiani (AMPI) e i suoi membri portano avanti questa tradizione
facendo della Colomba il piatto forte della tradizione culinaria pasquale in Italia.
