COMPETITIVE FINANCING ▪ 175 +22 UE H2020 research projects, which create a network of more than 1,900 partners, including over 830 in the private sector. 22 projects financed by the Interreg, Life 2014-2020, Creative Europe and COST programmes, with a network of more than 180 partners, including 36 in the private sector. ▪ 72 PRIN 2015 projects financed by MIUR, including 25 coordinated nationally by the University (1st equal in terms of number of projects; 11% funding success rate for projects presented by the University as national coordinator). With reference to the PRIN 2017 call, the University has presented 732 projects, including 233 as national coordinator (under evaluation). ▪ 80 research projects financed by Emilia-Romagna (33 in the context of the 2014-2020 PORFESR Laboratories call; 4 strategic industrial research projects in the context of actions 1.2 and 1.3 of the 2011-2013 Energy Plan; 24 in the context of the Rural Development Plan 14-20 measure 16.1-Call 2016, 8 in the context of the Rural Development Plan 14-20 measure 16.1-Call 2017, 11 in the context of the First Invitation to present projects under the Three-year Advanced Skills Plan for Research, Technological Transfer and Entrepreneurship). 16

Scientific production ▪ The University has systematically monitored its scientific production since 1997. Records were computerised in 1999 and are updated freely by professors and research fellows via input to dedicated software written by Cineca: the Institutional Repository (IR) module of the IRIS suite gathers the data on scientific production at the University and allows full-text management of the contributions on an open-access basis. ▪ The overall progress during the 3-year period 2015-2017 was positive and improving: 2015 2016 2017 8,808 8,844 9,125 19

IBES History and Scope ▪ IBES is the merging of three previously independent programmes: – Ingegneria dei Sistemi, later Automatica e Ricerca Operativa – Ingegneria Biomedica – Ingegneria Elettrica – all started from 1° Cycle (1983) ▪ “IBES” Alumni is a large and highly successful community including a large number of permanent academic staff and researchers employed in public and private industries worldwide ▪ Large number of students: 12-18 enrolled every year (>50% from external funds) ▪ Large number of potential PhD advisors (“IBES” disciplines are >60% of DEI staff) ▪ Wide scope and interdisciplinary nature – Automatic & Operations Research – Bioengineering – Electrical engineering 28

PhD credits: how to get them Part of the credits must be collected attending: ▪ At least 1 Summer School or 1 National/International School, whose topic is closed to the PhD student research topic (1 day = 1 Ph.D. Credit – max 3 credits each school) ▪ IBES courses/seminars (1/2 day = 3 hours = 1 PhD credit – at least 2 credits) ▪ Training courses for the acquisition and development of soft skills (credits will be defined each time by the PhD Board) Credits assignment shall be approved by the PhD Board The remaining credits can be collected attending: ▪ Master degree courses (n° of course CFU = n° of Ph.D. The «request of recognition» must be credits, maximum 9 credits over the 3 years) sent to the PhD Office ▪ Workshops and tutorials during international dei-phd-ibes@unibo.it conferences (1 conference = 1 PhD credits) ▪ Seminars or courses specifically related to the chosen See more at: research topic (1 day = 2 PhD credits, 1/2 day = 1 PhD credit) https://phd.unibo.it/ibes/en/career/c redits-how-to-get-them 38

Mobility funding ▪ Funding for short mobility (less than 1 month) of PhDs is made available by the individual supervisors (the PhD itself has no specific funding) ▪ A 30% increase of the scholarship will be available for longer internships abroad ▪ Furthermore, the Marco Polo scholarship supports the mobility abroad 40
Working while attending the PhD Any time you are planning to accept a job assignment, no matter if the employer is UNIBO: ▪ Collect the tutor’s approval ▪ Fill in the «request of authorization» form ▪ Send all docs to dei-phd-ibes@unibo.it ▪ Wait for the PhD Board authorization All of the above shall be completed prior to the signature of any contract!!!!!
