                                                                                                                                                Come viaggiatori si è arrivati ad apprezzare i benefici delle valigie di plastica. Sono estremamente leggeri e flessibili, ma
                                                                                                                                                allo stesso tempo resistenti e di bell’aspetto. Le valigie realizzate in lastre sottili di plastica termoformate hanno rivoluzio-
                                                                                                                                                nato un’intera specie di prodotto.
                                                                                                                                                Come progettista sono rimasto colpito dall’ingegnosità di questa tecnologia pensando a quanto fosse appropriato all’ap-
                                                                                                                                                plicazione nella produzione e funzione delle moderne scocche per sedie. Il potenziale creativo sembrava ovvio. Tuttavia,
                                                                                                                                                tradurlo in una formula di successo per una sedia necessitava tempo e sperimentazione. Con CUP abbiamo sviluppato
                                                                                                                                                un’elegante geometria per il guscio, che combina la resistenza strutturale con un alto grado di flessibilità e leggerezza.
                                                                                                                                                L’imbottitura interna della scocca aggiunge un’ergonomia equilibrata alla seduta che la rende una scelta perfetta per le si-
                                                                                                                                                tuazioni di conferenza, aree di attesa e ristoranti. La scocca di plastica nera o bianca può essere combinata con una scelta
                                                                                                                                                infinita di tessuti e colori a seconda che si debba fondere con l’ambiente o essere una protagonista. (Konstantin Grcic).

                                                                                                                                                duction and performance of modern chair shells. The creative potential seemed obvious. However, translating it into a

                                                                                                                                                successful formula for a chair took time and learning. With CUP we have developed an elegant geometry for the shell,
                                                                                                                                                which combines structural strength with a high degree of flexibility and lightness. The upholstered inside of the shell adds a

                                                                                                                                                well-balanced ergonomic quality to the chair, making it a perfect choice for conference situations, waiting and dining areas.
                                                                                                                                                The shell in black or white plastic can be combined with an infinite range of fabrics and colours, depending on whether it

                                                                                                                                                Als Möbeldesigner war ich von der Genialität dieser Technologie ergriffen und befand, daß sie sich ideal für die Produktion
                                                                                                                                                und Funktion moderner Sitzschalen anwenden ließe. Das kreative Potenzial schien offensichtlich, das Übersetzen in eine
                                                                                                                                                erfolgreiche Formel für einen Stuhl brauchte jedoch Zeit und Tests. Mit CUP haben wir eine elegante Geometrie für die
                                                                                                                                                Schale entwickelt, die strukturelle Festigkeit mit einem hohen Grad an Flexibilität und Leichtigkeit kombiniert. Die gepol-
                                                                                                                                                sterte Seite der Schale trägt zur ausgewogenen Ergonomie des Stuhls bei und ist somit die perfekte Wahl für Konferen-
                                                                                                                                                zsituationen, Wartebereiche und Restaurants. Die Schale aus schwarzem oder weißem Kunststoff kann mit einer großen
                                                                                                                                                Auswahl an Stoffen und Farben kombiniert werden, je nachdem, ob sie sich mit der Einrichtung verbinden oder Protago-

                                                                                                                                         Con la seduta LAND, disegnata da Naoto Fukasawa, Plank amplia la collezione Outdoor. Un progetto caratterizzato da linee
                                                                                                                                         pure che cerca l’equilibrio relativo al rapporto tra forma e carattere, tra espressione e fluidità. LAND è una seduta lounge
                                                                                                                                         realizzata con technologia dello stampaggio del materiale plastico in rotazionale. Nasce con l’intento di un prodotto per
                                                                                                                                         l’esterno ma il suo design sobrio ed elegante lo rende adatto anche per l’interno.
                                                                                                                                         Il sedile basso e leggermente inclinato invita ad una postura rilassata con gambe distese e schiena supportata, ma ricorda
                                                                                                                                         nello stesso momento la sensazione di essere seduti in una vettura sportiva. Ideale per lounges ed aree d’attesa all’interno
                                                                                                                                         ed esterno.

                                                                                                                                         lines, it seeks to balance the relation between form and character, expression and fluidity. LAND is a lounge chair made with
                                                                                                                                         rotational plastic mould technology. It was born to serve as an outdoor seat, but its sober and elegant design makes it sui-
                                                                                                                                         table for indoor uses too.
                                                                                                                                         The low, slightly inclined seat promotes a relaxed posture with outstretched legs and supported back. At the same time, it

                                                                                                                                         führung auszeichnet und das Gleichgewicht in Relation zu Form und Ausdruck , zwischen Ausdruck und Fluidität sucht.
                                                                                                                                         LAND ist ein Lounge Sessel welcher im Rotations- Kunststoffschmelzverfahren hergestellt wird. Durch seine elegante, redu-
                                                                                                                                         zierte Formgebung ist LAND nicht nur für den Außenbereich, sondern auch für den Innenbereich geeignet.
                                                                                                                                         Die niedere, leicht nach hinten abfallende Sitzfläche begünstigt eine entspannte Haltung mit ausgestreckten Beinen und
                                                                                                                                         abgestütztem Rücken, erinnert aber gleichzeitig an das bodennahe Sitzgefühl eines Sportwagens. Ideal für Lounges und

Plank è un’azienda storica che ha i suoi inizi nel 1953. In linea con la filosofia aziendale volta alla ricerca,                 Konstantin Grcic (*1965) si diploma come falegname al Parnham College in Inghilterra e studia design pres-

With his designs devoted to simplicity and sublime beauty, Fukasawa has designed for a wide range of
leading brands worldwide in Italy, Germany, America, Switzerland, Spain, China, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan,
Singapore, France, Portugal, Sweden and Finland, as well as consulting and working with Japanese major
corporations. His designs span a wide variety of fields, from precision electronic equipment to furniture and
interior settings.
He has received numerous national and international design awards. His wall-mounted CD player for MUJI,
humidifier for ±0 and the mobile phones INFOBAR and neon for au/KDDI are all part of New York’s Museum of
Modern Art’s (MoMA) permanent collection. In 2007, he was accorded the title of Honorable Royal Designer
for Industry (Royal Society of Arts), UK. MUJI’s wall-mounted CD player is also part of the Victoria and Albert
Museum’s permanent collection, while his HIROSHIMA armchair for MARUNI is part of Designmusuem Dan-
mark’s permanent collection.
Fukasawa is one of the directors of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT. He also sits on the design advisory board of MUJI,
and is the art director of MARUNI. In 2017, he became a member of the judging committee for the LOEWE
Craft Prize. He is a professor in the Integrated Design department at Tama Art University. In 2006, he estab-
lished “Super Normal” with Jasper Morrison. He has been acted as the 5th curator of The Japan Folk Crafts
Museum since 2012.
Fukasawa has co-authored “The Outline – The Unseen Outline of Things” (Hachette Fujingaho) with pho-
