di teatro festival in Bologna, as a space for reflection and
updating on policies for children aged 0/6 in relation to the
NRRP with particular attention to non-verbal languages
and facilitation of inclusion after Covid-19.

Among the guests of this edition, the Silver Lion 2019, Jetse
Batelaan, with the show Real women would run in rainproof
gear, and the two projects of the companies De Stilte and Mime
Wave that bring the new generations
closer to the discovery of the
language of dance and mime.
FROM NORWAY: INSIGHTS AND VIEWS
ON ARTIC, SUSTAINABILITY, EQUALITY
A space for discovering Norwegian culture and artists through
reflection on hot topics and current urgencies thanks to the
online viewing of animated shorts, workshops and discussion
spaces. A programme whose key word is equality, understood
as sustainability or balance in the use of resources, in the
relationship with the environment and in the division of roles
with a focus on gender equality.
FRANCE ON STAGE
As always, France is present with live performances but also
with artists and contributions of thought on the platform.
Guests of honour with the acrobatic and visual show of the Les
Sanglés company, sustainability of relations with the workshops
of Company 22. Between digital and live there are also the
“Dialogues on the sustainability of festivals after the pandemic” to
imagine new models of survival of theatre seasons and festivals.

Transgenerational flows, from early
childhood to adolescence
IN COLLABORATION WITH La Baracca - Testoni Ragazzi
The two festivals - SEGNI New Generations Festival and Visioni
di futuro, visioni di teatro - intertwine their projects to enhance
processes of osmosis of skills and knowledge.
They are hosting three HUBs of professionals, two physical
ones in Mantua and Bologna and one online, on their respective
platforms (segninonda.org - visionifestival.it), where to carry
out a path of training and confrontation on the themes of cross-
generational programming and the possibility of connecting two
apparently different worlds such as childhood and adolescence.

At SEGNI 2021 there will be two talks and two workshops for

encourage the ability to dialogue

THE DUTCH SCENE
A consolidated format during the pandemic to maintain relations
with the international scene, the Chain Reaction Dialogue is

a virtual journey that involves interviewing artists and cultural
operators from a foreign country to gather information and
build more effective cooperation processes. In this edition of
SEGNI 2021 the destination is the Netherlands. There will be an

V.I.P. VERY INTERNATIONAL PITCH
A selection of artistic projects presented with a pitch in a hybrid
and interactive formula. The artist or producer shares a problem
or a development objective, a mentor leads a brainstorming
process according to the case clinic method in which all those
present at the meeting participate.

OTHER VISIONS
A section of shows with particularly challenging subjects and
themes, chosen in collaboration with international artistic
directors and the group of TEEN Ambassadors, with the aim
of opening the horizons of new generations of spectators and
nurturing an inclusive imagery capable of reflecting all the
cultures of the world.
The shows can be watched online and shared at the Loggia
del Grano, which will be equipped with a screen.

Since 2014 SEGNI New Generations Festival
has been working on the active involvement
of teenage audiences with the TEEN
Project, a European cooperation project
that is heading towards its third follow up.
From this project two innovative discussion
formats were born, which have become fixed
appointments of the festival, open to all and
accessible online on segninonda.org.

IN COLLABORATION WITH Stratagemmi Prospettive Teatrali
A space for critical discussion of the shows in the programme led
by the TEEN Ambassadors in the company of a guest theatre critic,
different every day, and open to the public. An opportunity for
professionals and artists to listen to the voice of their audience,
giving them ideas for new artistic reflections while enjoying an
appetizer (“spuntino”) with typical Mantuan products.

DIGITAL TEEN KITCHEN TABLE -
SUSTAINABILITY
IN COLLABORATION WITH European Parliament Office in
Milan, Royal Norwegian Embassy and ARCA - Action for Climate
Resistance collective of Culture and Art, permanent table on
climate change within the project C-Change
A space for discussion on a specific theme led by a group of
teenagers who gather around a table in a convivial atmosphere
to share points of view with professionals and experts.
The relationship and sensitivity of the new generations to
environmental issues is now well known, but how can we
stimulate that generational alliance that can bring results
or at least bring about effective changes for the necessary
“mitigation”? A chat with expert guests on the subject, between
environmental sensitivity and possible solutions under the
visionary gaze of the new generations.

Three professionals specialised in environmental research
arrive with their mobile laboratory to take samples of
polluted air: they climb and fly, between ladders and
extension cords. An extraordinary aerial show, with a
burlesque tone, in which a van is transformed into a real
travelling circus and the acrobats into superheroes to
combat air pollution.

An incredible piece that weaves together poetry and circus
disciplines to tell the story of life as change and encounter,
fusions of experiences and collisions of moments. Freely
adapted from Jack Kerouac’s cult text, inspirer of the
Beat Generation and coming-of-age novel for several
generations, the show offers a journey of self-discovery
and of what really counts.

Through the symbol of water and the circle, the two artists
question the cycle of life, the construction of identity
through one’s own reflection and the relationship to
others. A small visual and musical poem in which forms
and movements resonate in water games and composed
rhythms: they remind us to maintain the link with nature
and find a universal language that connects us.

A good start… The show, suitable for 18 months and up,
puts the bodies of children and adults in relation to the
book object, stimulating actions, reactions and sensations,
to invent stories that are always new. Books, made of
matter, colours, words and sounds, lend themselves
to infinite possibilities of exploration and become the
imaginative bridges between adults and very young
children, who together can experience a special adventure
that strengthens their bond.
The show is also designed for the class group and can be
performed in the nurseries on request.

Yellow will take the audience on a journey to a world
where everything is yellow. Yellow is the colour of the sun,
but also the colour of happiness. The three performers –
through mime and live music - collectively shape the city
into a playground, until an entirely new colour appears:
blue. In the year of the chameleon, we could not miss a
show that stages the magical transformation of colours,
which change and give life to new shades, to show how
we can be different but complementary.

The adventure of an unlikely group, consisting of a little
girl, a flea and a dog, becomes an amusing musical merry-
go-round. With melodies, shapes and balancing acts, the
story follows a dreamlike rhythm and leads the characters
to discover a piano full of stories. A musical performance
inspired by the piano compositions of Melanie Hélène
Bonis and taken from the illustrated book of the same
name published by Carthusia Edizioni.

Water, an element that takes us back to our origins and to
life, is the protagonist of the piece, which aims to recount
its nature as a scientific fable that blends with the poetry
of growing up. By creating animations of sounds, light
and materials, the artists on stage reproduce a succession
of evocative and changing images that, starting from a
blue dot, generate rivers, seas and then oceans, become
mountains, plants and animals, men, and then leap into
the universe...

In a time when science seems to have all the answers, an
unidentified object, probably of alien origin, falls from the
sky. An American scientist arrives on the scene to examine it
with the most sophisticated NASA equipment and to decode
a possible message from extra-terrestrial beings…Through
clown-like play, viewers are led into a universe populated by
toy aliens and tinfoil spaceships that spoof science fiction
stories and films.

The show traces the story of the famous piper, between fairy

The protagonists are three escaped convicts wearing masks
resembling Dobermans. Massimiliano composes and
“assembles” electronic music; Federico and Giacomo draw live
illustrations on these notes. The live set experiments with the
possibilities offered by the mix of traditional techniques and
digital technologies: it combines live drawing and animation,
wooden blocks and chroma keys, chalks and iPads. Everything
is shaken by a video mixer which superimposes the fluidity of
original animated videos on the drawings created live, marking
the progress of the story. Digital animation, stop motion,
video games, vintage cartoons blend and contaminate to tell
the adventures of the Rascals in different ways, but (almost)
always ironic.

Invincible tells about Ottavio Bottecchia, a champion at the
Tour de France in the 1920s who was little considered in Italy
because of his political ideas, Katherine Switzer who ran the
Boston Marathon, then forbidden to women, and the odyssey
of the Syrian swimmer Yusra Mardini, forced to flee across the
Aegean Sea.

told by analog frames give the feeling of being in front of a

how it is important to overcome them, even with the help
of others, rather than closing in on oneself.

How can we observe them with the eyes of poetry?
We asked a group of young performers to return to “see
the stars again” at a time when the stars have been pushed
aside. We have chosen to tell the story of the female
scientists of our time, drawing inspiration from the nine
women programmers of the Linux Open-Source world
among the many supernovae capable of “exploding” in all
their brilliance and talent.

The workshop aims to provide teachers and educators

What is it like to be “one” in a world that pushes us to be
like others? Will the planet still be on its feet in 50 years?
Are we able to dream in our current society? These are
some of the provocative questions at the basis of the
research that Compagnie 22 is carrying out around Europe
with groups of adolescents, which will give rise to a real
show. A workshop and a meeting to collect experiences
from young people and find a new way of tackling the
challenges of the future. Every day a different theme and
different means to tell about it: photography, writing,
graphic work, dance/bodywork, music.

show Supernova - which will be staged in the Loggia del
Grano on 29 October (page 44) - exploring and creating
a narrative on the themes of science and gender equality.
