DAI CAMPIONATI ITALIANI ASSOLUTI I PRIMI TRE NOMI DEGLI
AZZURRI - Sarà un week-end da seguire con attenzione quello che scatta giovedì 12
aprile all’Arezzo Equestrian Centre con l’edizione 2018 dei Campionati Italiani. Dal
podio degli Assoluti scaturiranno infatti i nomi dei primi tre azzurri per lo Csio di
Roma Piazza di Siena. In totale gli italiani saranno diciotto: cinque componenti la
squadra ufficiale e tredici in gara a titolo individuale. Tra questi tre Under 25.
Duccio Bartalucci, commissario tecnico della Fise, ha già da tempo iniziato a
monitorare l’attività dei binomi azzurri di vertice nei concorsi internazionali, sia
all’estero che nelle prove del Toscana Tour.
“La prova in Italia sulla quale abbiamo concentrato la massima attenzione - spiega
Bartalucci - è stato il Gran Premio del Csi4 che si è svolto domenica scorsa, 8 aprile, a
conclusione del Toscana Tour. Una gara con ostacoli di altezza sino a 1,60 tra l'altro
vinta dal nostro Bruno Chimirri. Ad Arezzo - prosegue - i Campionati Italiani
Assoluti si svolgeranno con la formula ridotta di due giornate di gara (venerdì 13,
categoria a tempo tabella C e sabato 14 aprile categoria a due manche). I tre cavalieri

Il 7 e l'8 aprile ha visto due splendide giornate
dedicate alla disciplina del completo organizzate dalla
ASD La Polveriera del Cormor di Mortegliano (Udine).
La manifestazione comprendeva le seguenti
categorie: Invito, 1, 2, 3, CNC1* per la prima tappa
Alpe Adria Eventing Trophy 2018.
Alle competizioni hanno partecipato

gareggeranno la Campionessa del Mondo Sara Morganti, Maurilio Vaccaro,
Francesca Salvadè ed Erica Barozzi
Azzurri dell’equitazione paralimpica pronti a dare
spettacolo nei rettangoli dello CPEDI3* di Kralovice,
cittadina a 30 chilometri da Praga in Repubblica
Ceca.
Agli ordini di Ferdinando Acerbi, capo equipe azzurro
e responsabile del Dipartimento Equitazione
Paralimpica, da venerdì 13 a domenica 15 aprile, ci
sarà la squadra italiana composta dalla Campionessa
del Mondo Sara Morganti su Ferdinand di Fonte
Abeti, Maurilio Vaccaro su Bonaire van de
Mottelhoeve, Francesca Salvadè su Muggel 4 ed

World number one Kent Farrington has claimed the award for the Longines FEI World’s Best Jumping Rider and the US Olympic
mare HH Azur was declared the Longines FEI World’s Best Jumping Horse at a special presentation in the Paris City Hall tonight.

Olympic team silver medallist Kent Farrington (USA) took over the number one slot in the Longines World Rankings in May 2017 and
refused to allow anyone to break his winning streak, remaining at the top of the elite list for the rest of the year. The 37-year-old, who Organiser
is well on the road to recovery after breaking his right leg in a fall in mid-February, received the award for the Longines FEI World’s
Best Jumping Rider after finishing the year on 3,313 points, holding off those snapping at his heels – Harrie Smolders (NED) on
2,953 points and fellow US Olympian McLain Ward on 2,903. Veterinarian
The 12-year-old HH Azur, which McLain Ward rode to victory at last year’s Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final in Omaha (USA), Event Medical Officer
added another major accolade to her collection when being named the Longines FEI World’s Best Jumping Horse. Affectionately
known as “Annie”, the Olympic mare is owned by Double H Farms and Francois Mathy (BEL), who collected the award at tonight’s
presentation accompanied by his wife Claudia Mathy and McLain Ward. National Federation
“We are delighted to the Longines FEI best rider and best horse here tonight in Paris in this beautiful setting of the Mairie de Paris, a Bidder
fitting prelude to the FEI World Cup™ Finals,” FEI President Ingmar de Vos said.
“We are all inspired by how these athletes – both human and equine – ignite the passion in our sport and show us what it takes to Media
succeed on the world stage. In addition, the successful partnership we have established with Longines, demonstrating the synergies
between the brand and our sport, not only give extra recognition to our athletes, but the creation of these awards has given additional Horse Owner
value to the Longines rankings and provides a further incentive to our athletes worldwide.”

Kent Farrington and HH Azur’s co-owner François Mathy were each presented with an elegant Longines watch from the Longines Saint-
Imier Collection as well as a replica trophy of the magnificent crystal winged hourglass representing the brand’s emblem at the
inaugural ceremony in Paris, alongside the FEI World Cup™ Finals 2018 draws for Jumping and Dressage.

the horse’s 10 best results of the year in the Longines Rankings. The Longines FEI World’s Best Jumping Rider is the world number one
in the Longines Rankings at the end of the year.
Points for the Longines Rankings are accumulated in Grands Prix*, the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping and the Longines FEI Nations
Cup™ Jumping, including the Finals, as well as the World and European Senior Championships. Double points are awarded at Finals and

da Anna Zuccaro, esperta di Educazione assistita con il cavallo, la quale ha
permesso di far scoprire il mondo del cavallo ai bambini autistici presenti con
le loro famiglie al Centro Ippico.
"Momenti di grande emozione - si legge in una nota - nel vedere la tenerezza
e lo stupore sui volti dei bambini e la gioia su quelli dei loro genitori che hanno
definito questa giornata "una ricarica per il cuore".

A total of 37 riders from 17 countries will battle it out over three days of Jumping, while 18 riders from
13 nations will contest the Dressage title. It’s going to be a battle of the giants in both disciplines and no
quarter will be given, but Frenchman Henry, didn’t do his chances any harm when pulling out his own name as
last to go in his opening event.
“ It’s been our dream for many years to bring these Finals back to Paris”, said show organiser Sylvie Robert,
“ and now at last our dream has come true!”. Both the Jumping and Dressage Finals have taken place at the
Parisian venue before, but never together, and only once. America’s Katharine Burdsall, riding The
Natural, claimed the ninth Jumping title in the City of Lights all the way back in 1986, and Finland’s Kyra
Kyrklund and Matador won the sixth FEI World Cup™ Dressage title in 1991. It is another American
partnership, McLain Ward with his brilliant mare HH Azur, who will be defending the Jumping title.
With the riders and their horses ready to go, and fans pouring into the city with great anticipation the stage is
set for a fantastic weekend of top sport.
FEI President, Ingmar de Vos, said “ it’s an honour to be here in Paris, home of the Olympic Games in 1900 and
1924, and of course 2024, but also the home of so many other great sporting moments. The world’s best
partnerships have fought hard to be here and they are ready to claim their piece of history!”

Facts and Figures: Defending champion, America’s Mclain Ward, is chasing his second consecutive Longines
FEI World Cup™ Jumping title with the same mare, HH Azur, in Paris (FRA).
The first FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final took place in Gothenburg (SWE) in 1979 where Austria’s Hugo Simon
came out on top with Gladstone. The Swedish city has hosted the FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final on 14
occasions, and the Final will return to Gothenburg in 2019.
A total of four riders have won the FEI World Cup™ Jumping title on three occasions: Hugo Simon
(AUT), Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and Marcus Ehning (GER) and Rodrigo Pessoa from Brazil. Pessoa
is the only rider to have won three back-to-back titles on the same horse, the stallion Baloubet du
Rouet.
This week in Paris, Germany’s Marcus Ehning has the chance of becoming the first ever four-time
champion.
Defending champion, Germany’s Isabell Werth, is going for her second consecutive FEI World Cup™
Dressage title and her fourth overall.
She recorded her first victory with Fabienne in 1992 in Gothenburg (SWE), her second in Las Vegas (USA) in
2007 with Warum Nicht and her third in Omaha (USA) in 2017 with Weihegold OLD who she partners once
again this week in Paris.
The first FEI World Cup™ Dressage Final was held in ’s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands in 1986 where

Denmark’s Anne-Grethe Jensen and Marzog reigned supreme.
The most successful athlete in the history of FEI World Cup™ Dressage is The Netherlands’ Anky van
Grunsven who posted a phenomenal nine victories over an extraordinary 13-year period between
1995 and 2008, a record unlikely ever to be challenged.

“ I was thrown into the fish tank that year, so I studied all the other riders’ floorplans. And the music comes
from Rudy, a football movie about an underdog kid,” said Graves, who admitted that she had actually arrived
at the show without her music and had to have a new copy burned.
Although this was their third highest score ever, Graves will be altering the floorplan ahead of the CDI5*
AGDF show (February 8-11).

“ He’s such a clever horse that he guesses what’s going to happen, which is why we’re going to change it,” she
explained.
The podium order was unchanged from the previous day’s grand prix: Sweden’s seven-time Olympian
Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén filled second on Lövsta Stuteri’s 15-year-old gelding Paridon Magi (by Don
Primero) with 79.05%, while home rider Shelly Francis partnered Patricia Stempel’s ever-improving 14-

Vilhelmson Silfvén had to ride in one of the rain squalls that passed over.
“ Magi felt extremely electric, and it’s hard to ride outside when there’s a lot of wind — the rain is okay — but
generally the test felt really good. He’s a fun horse to ride in the freestyle because you can do difficult things
on him,” she said.
Francis said: “I’m so happy with my horse; he’s getting much more honest in there. He’s hot, but he’s now
using the hot to come to work with me. We had a little mistake in the one tempis, but he came right back to
me.”
All three riders are aiming to qualify for the FEI World Cup Dressage Final in Paris in April and,
ultimately, the FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Tryon in September.
American judge Janet Foy, who was presiding from C, said: “Two of us judges here are also judging at the
World Cup final — plus we’ve done other qualifiers in Europe — and these top three rides were wonderful and
would fit right in in Paris.”
During the freestyle break, Danish Olympic rider Andreas Helgstrand — who has recently set up a sales
barn in Wellington — gave a masterclass for spectators featuring PRE horses. American under-25 rider
Kerrigan Gluch and Danish team member Mikala Münter were the test riders, with Münter riding 73-year-old
Janne Rumbough’s grey international grand prix horse Junior ahead of his imminent retirement.
Heather Blitz (USA) bolstered Praestemarkens Quatero’s 2018 resumé further by landing the day’s
Prix St Georges CDI3* class, presented by Triple Crown Nutrition, adding to their two small tour wins in week
one of the 2018 AGDF. In this class, Blitz was the only rider to crack 70%, scoring 70.324% on her own nine-
year-old Danish warmblood by Quaterback. The combination boasts six wins from their seven CDI small tour
starts. Two judges had the second-placed Norwegian combination of Alexandra Gamlemshaug Andresen and
her own nine-year-old Empire B (by Sting x OO Seven) as the winners. This promising duo were stepping out
into senior international ranks for the first time, having been on the youth circuit, culminating in the European
Championships for young riders in August in Roosendaal, France. Andresen, who is just 21, scored 69.676%.
British rider Susan Pape’s Prix St Georges CDI1* winner Harmony’s Eclectisch has an equally sparse
competition history, but roared to victory with a final total of 69.529%, including a high score from the M
judge, Janet Foy, who awarded 74.265%. The nine-year-old black licensed stallion by Zenon x Olivi was acquired
in November by American dressage sponsor Leslie Malone of Harmony Sport Horses, having previously been
owned by Andreas Helgstrand, among others.
Action at AGDF continues tomorrow with a full schedule of eight CDI classes, including young rider,
junior and pony contests, as well as two FEI Intermediate I competitions and the Grand Prix Special CDI3*,
presented by Horseware Ireland, starting at 3pm. The 12-week 2018 AGDF runs through March 31. For more
