Effects of different cooling systems on the heat stress and the behavior of dairy cows
The research aims to reduce cow heat stress in hot humid climate by using a sprinkler system coupled
with forced ventilation installed in the feeding lane of a free-stall barn without access to a paddock.

The protocol include:
• Measurement of climatic parameters inside the
 barn and outside.
• Measurement of physiological and productive
 parameters.
• Monitoring of cow behavior by means of a multi-
 camera video-recording system

The research is carried out within the activities of

L’obiettivo principale dell’Azione consiste nella corretta stima e nell’efficace riduzione delle emissioni di
ammoniaca e gas serra derivanti dall’attività zootecnica.
pratiche dell’allevatore.

risk factors and leg disorders in broiler chickens
•Due to the strong connection between leg disorders, litter quality and
thermal comfort, the aim of this study was to find the association
between environmental predisposing factors and leg problems, in order
to identify solution for the management of the micro-climate of the
 broiler house.

Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA)

A new Partnership on Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) will develop much-needed solutions for a more
sustainable management of water and agro-food systems. The main objective of the ten-year initiative (2018 – 2028), which is
partly funded by EU's research and innovation programme Horizon 2020, is to devise new R&I approaches to improve
 water
availability and sustainable agriculture production in a region heavily distressed by climate
change, urbanisation and population growth.
The partnership will be financed through a combination of funding from participating countries (currently €274
million), and a €220 million contribution from the EU through Horizon 2020, its research and innovation
funding programme (2014 – 2020).
