       La pandemia, da un anno a questa parte, ha stravolto la vita del mondo intero costringendo a ripensare gli eventi in modo del tutto inedito. È accaduto
       anche per la 69ª edizione del National Prayer Breakfast (Npb), la tradizionale “Colazione di Preghiera” organizzata da una speciale Commissione composta
       da senatori e congressisti degli Stati Uniti d’America. Inaugurato da Eisenhower nel 1953, si tratta del più grande network interreligioso di leader che
       riconoscono in Gesù, a prescindere dalle confessioni religiose di appartenenza, un “modello” di leadership che ponga al centro i valori universali del Vangelo
       e dunque l’uomo, la sua dignità integrale, gli ideali di pace e di fraternita tra le Nazioni. A motivo delle misure di sicurezza anti Covid-19, l’edizione 2021,
       prevista per giovedì 4 e venerdì 5 febbraio, è stata pensata secondo una formula digitale, che ha visto collegati in streaming, su invito, circa 1.900 delegati da
       154 Paesi del mondo. Al cuore, il discorso pronunciato on line dal neo 46° presidente degli Usa Joseph Biden, insediatosi alla Casa Bianca il 20 gennaio
       scorso. In più di un passaggio significativo, Biden ha ricordato il delicato momento che il Paese sta attraversando in quello che è stato definito “un momento
       buio”, con “oltre 400mila americani che hanno perso la vita a causa del virus” e il recente assalto a Capitol Hill, poco prima dell’inizio del suo mandato.
       Biden ha auspicato di “combattere e sconfiggere l’estremismo politico” e, riferendosi al filosofo Kierkegaard e alla fede cristiana, ha evidenziato che essa “fa
       rivivere la speranza, dona chiarezza e mostra la strada per andare avanti come unica Nazione e il comune scopo del rispetto reciproco”.
       Eccezionalmente, quest’anno, sono intervenuti anche quattro dei cinque predecessori viventi nel mandato presidenziale: Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barack
       Obama e, mediante un messaggio, Jimmy Carter. Assente Donald Trump. A queste “voci” si sono unite, tra le altre, quelle di Nancy Pelosi, speaker della
       Camera dei rappresentanti, e di David Beasley, direttore esecutivo del World Food Programme delle Nazioni Unite, vincitore del Premio Nobel per la pace
       2020. In chiusura, è stato riproposto il video di Amanda Gorman, la giovane poetessa afroamericana esibitasi nel giorno del giuramento di Biden. Per l’Italia
       ha partecipato Salvatore Martinez, presidente del RnS, che nel 2015 fu relatore nella sessione dedicata al Medio Oriente, sul tema: “Papa Francesco –
       Famiglia – Terra Santa”. “È un messaggio di conciliazione nazionale e di riconciliazione tra i popoli, duramente colpiti dalla pandemia, quello che il
       presidente Biden ha voluto porgere – ha dichiarato Martinez in collegamento da Roma –, indicando il nuovo ruolo che gli Usa si propongono di svolgere a
       servizio dei diritti dell’uomo. Una nuova alleanza ispirata ai valori del Vangelo e alla tradizione democratica che ha contraddistinto la storia del Paese”.
