CELLO EXPERIENCE – Call for works

Il Six Memos Ensemble ha il piacere di annunciare una call for works per violoncello solo per il concerto
che avrà luogo a marzo 2019 a Bari in seguito alla masterclass di Violoncello tenuta da Francesco
Dillon dal 12 al 16 marzo a Bari in collaborazione con l’Associazione “Blumen Ensemble”, Vincitore
PIN – Iniziativa promossa dalle Politiche Giovanili della Regione Puglia e ARTI e finanziata con risorse
del FSE – PO Puglia 2014/2020 Azione 8.
La call for works è aperta a ogni compositore, senza limiti di età e nazionalità.
I brani inviati dovranno avere una durata massima di 7’. Non è consentito l’uso di elettronica e/o
amplificazione.
La documentazione di seguito indicata per la partecipazione alla call dovrà essere inviata, completa
in ogni sua parte, entro e non oltre il giorno 20 dicembre 2018 all’indirizzo
blumen.ensemble@gmail.com .

Roberta Peroni, direttore e direttore artistico del Six Memos Ensemble
Carmen Fizzarotti, compositrice e direttore artistico del Six Memos Ensemble

Verrà comunicato via mail l’esito della selezione ai compositori interessati entro il 31 gennaio 2019.
Il Six Memos Ensemble sarà felice di ammettere i compositori selezionati ad assistere alla masterclass
di Francesco Dillon e a prendere parte alle prove per il concerto.
Non è previsto alcun compenso per l’esecuzione dei lavori selezionati e tutte le spese di viaggio, vitto
e alloggio saranno a carico degli interessati.

The Six Memos Ensemble is pleased to announce a call for works for cello solo in occasion of the
concert that will take place in March, 2019 in Bari, after the Cello Masterclass by Francesco Dillon in

March from 12th to 16th, 2019, in collaboration with Associazione “Blumen Ensemble”, Vincitore PIN
– Iniziativa promossa dalle Politiche Giovanili della Regione Puglia e ARTI e finanziata con risorse del
FSE – PO Puglia 2014/2020 Azione 8.

The call for works is open to all composers without restrictions of age and nationality.
Works submitted must last max 7’. Electronic and/or PA system are not allowed.

Application form’s deadline is on December 20th, 2018 and it must be send to:

       Max. 3 works will be selected at the incontestable discretion of the commission, made up of:

       Francesco Dillon, cellist, professor of the masterclass
       Nicola Fiorino, cellist of the Six Memos Ensemble
       Maurizio Zaccaria, pianist of the Six Memos Ensemble
       Roberta Peroni, conductor and artistic director of the Six Memos Ensemble
       Carmen Fizzarotti, composer and artistic director of the Six Memos Ensemble

       Results of the selection will be communicated by email to the concerned composers by
       January 31, 2019.

       Six Memos Ensemble will be pleased to admit the selected composers attending the
       masterclass by Francesco Dillon and participating in rehearsals of the concert.
Reimbursement is not provided for the performance of selected works and all the travel costs,
room and board will depend on concerned people.

Francesco Dillon (b.Turin, 1973) already has a brilliant international career to his credit, characterised
by the originality and variety of the repertoire that he has embraced. As a soloist he has performed on
such prestigious concert stages as the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, the
Berlin Philharmonie, the Herkulessaal of Munich, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Jordan Hall in Boston
and the Colon Theatre of Buenos Aires, with such orchestras as the Italian National Radio Orchestra
(RAI), the SWR Symphony Orchestra of Stuttgart, the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Vienna, the
Orchestra of the Colon Theatre, Ensemble Resonanz,the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra,the
Oulu Sinfonia Finland,the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the Tuscany Regional
                                             Orchestra (ORT). Most recently he made an acclaimed
                                             debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of La Scala, Milan,
                                             conducted by Susanna Mallki.
                                             Having graduated in Florence under the guidance of Andrea
                                             Nannoni, he continued his studies with Anner Bijlsma, Mario
                                             Brunello, David Geringas and Mstislav Rostropovich,
                                             thereafter studying composition with Salvatore Sciarrino.
                                             In 1993 he was one of the founders of the Quartetto
                                             Prometeo, a chamber group of international acclaim and
                                             winner of numerous prizes (Prague Spring, ARD Munich,
                                             Bordeaux) and recently honoured with the Leone d’Argento
                                             award of the Biennale Musica of Venice. Dillon is also a
                                             stable member of the Alter Ego ensemble which is regularly
                                             invited to the major contemporary music festivals around
                                             the world. His passion for chamber music has led to
                                             performances with musicians such as Irvine Arditti, Mario
Brunello, Giuliano Carmignola, Piero Farulli, David Geringas, Veronika Hagen, Alexander Lonquich,
Enrico Pace, Jean-Guihen Queyras.
The profound interest in contemporary music which he has always cultivated has led to solid
collaborations with the major composers of our time: Gavin Bryars, Ivan Fedele, Luca Francesconi,
Stefano Gervasoni, Philip Glass, Vinko Globokar, Sofija Gubaidulina, Jonathan Harvey, Toshio
Hosokawa, Giya Kancheli, Alexander Knaifel, Helmut Lachenmann, David Lang, Alvin Lucier, Arvo Pärt,
Henri Pousseur, Steve Reich, Fausto Romitelli, Kaija Saariaho, Salvatore Sciarrino and with cult
experimental musicians such as Matmos, and Pansonic, William Basinsky and John Zorn.
Dillon's performances have been transmitted by such important broadcasters as the BBC, RAI, ARD,
Radio France, ORF, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and WDR.
He has recorded for the ECM label, as well as Sony, Kairos, Ricordi, Stradivarius, Die Schachtel, Mode
and Touch.
He recently recorded for the first time, Variations by Salvatore Sciarrino which received the Diapason
d’0r prize, and Ballata by Giacinto Scelsi, both with the Italian National Radio Orchestra (RAI). As a duo
with the pianist Emanuele Torquati, he has brought out three CDs of rare music of Schumann and the
complete works for cello by Franz Liszt for Brilliant Classics.
Along with his concert activity there have been teaching experiences in institutions such as the Royal
College of London, the Scuola di musica di Fiesole, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow, the Pacific
University in California, Untref-Buenos Aires, Manchester University.
From 2010 he has been artistic director of the season of contemporary music Music@villaromana in
Florence.
